Beynon Memorial Celebrates 11th Tournament
November 8, 2002: A Snapshot
TEMPE, ARIZONA (BP) - Once again, the Bobby Beynon Memorial Golf Tournament outdid itself this year with an incredible fun-filled day out on the links and heck of a party afterward at Bandersnatch.
More people than ever participated in the day’s events, with a full afternoon flight of 144 golfers and another 36 joining the early morning round.* Importantly, everyone looked very stylish in our best golf apparel to date: black silk Tommy Bahama shirts, with cool palm tree imprints for that laid back, day-on-the-links look!
Golfers enjoyed some of the best weather the tourney has had in years, with partly cloudy skies and daytime temperatures in the high 70s, culminating with a spectacular desert sunset as everyone made their way back to the clubhouse and onward to Banders.
The evening was the typical fun, high-energy gathering we’ve come to expect, with plenty of beer, food (love those cheeseburgers after a day on the course), beer, catching up with friends, laughter, beer and, well, more food. As always, the raffle was the highlight of the night, with plenty of great prizes and the now obligatory shouts of “mix ‘em up Mike!” And, in a surprise turn, the grand prize Steamboat trip was actually not won by two-time incumbents Jeanne and Dave DeBarr, as Chris Munger shows up out of the blue (he does this every five years or so) and snatched it from their clutches to end the dynasty.
The tournament was won by Jon Conradi’s group with a score of 18 under. Conradi has played in almost every event so it was nice to see him win.
The 2002 Bobby Beynon Memorial Golf Tournament was once again an astounding success, and on behalf of my family I want to thank everyone who made it possible, including the volunteers, golfers, Karsten, Bandersnatch, all of the other supporters and sponsors of the tournament, and – most of all – Mike Reina for his steadfast spirit, incredible work and unending drive to making this the most memorable of events. I can’t think of a better way to honor the memory of my brother.
See you all next year!
*That said, some of our regulars were missing and we expect them back for an even bigger and better tournament next year!
