A Decade of Great Beynon Golf
TEMPE, ARIZONA (BP) -
After years of stacking his team, Vandy took home the 10th Annual’s traveling
trophy with an impressive 16 under. Reina's team was positioned directly behind
Team Budwieser and actually was tied with the Bud girls for the first 6 holes.
After a difficult year battling cancer, it was great to see John's team win.
Vandy has been very supportive of our efforts and truly has wanted to win this
event for many years. The traveling trophy is believed to be headed to the trophy
case at Karsten!
Although we thought it would be cooler as we were later in October, it was 95 degrees.
We had a 20 foot big screen positioned in the middle of the seating area at Banders making it seem as though Curt Schilling was a part of our group. The D-Backs won Game 3 of the NLCS against the Atlanta Braves, while Reina did his normal "roasting" of prize winners during the evenings events.
This year's edition (shirt) from Tommy Bahama was very well recieved. And someday soon, we all hope to be wearing our Tommy Bahama golf shoes which will match our Tommy Bahama shirts.
In an effort to recognize the tragic events of September 11, we gave bronze statues of firemen to two fireman that play in our tourney every year. Phoenix Captian Andy Arredondo and Tempe fireman Paul Farina were the proud recipients!
We had 184 golfers and raised $17,000 for the Bobby Beynon Memorial Scholarship & Endowment Fund.
People traveled from accross the country including, New Jersey, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Colorado, and California.
Mr. Beynon was not able to play this year but he flew in for the dinner at Banders!
